The image and data analyst will work in the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's disease and Neurodegenerative disorders (, under the guidance of Mohamad Habes, PhD, Director Glenn Biggs Neuroimaging Core and Dr. Sudha Seshadri, MD, the founding director of the Biggs Institute. The work involves:
- Testing, validating and extending advanced image processing algorithms;
- Preparing and extending image processing pipelines;
- Applying existing pipelines on magnetic resonance brain imaging datasets from various studies involving structural, DTI, functional MRI and PET scans;
A Bachelor's Degree/Master’s Degree in a related field is required. Strong computational skills (knowledge of Python and R, statistical analysis packages, basic shell scripting, experience in Unix platform) will be highly preferred. Good organizational skills are essential for the position. The data analyst will collect and organize final quantitative and imaging results, perform basic data analyses including machine learning applications and quality control on the results, and communicate with clinical collaborators for the dissemination and discussion of the results. This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience using advanced neuroimaging processing techniques and to apply these methods in the study of normal and pathological brain function.
The Biggs Institute is being established as a flagship, free-standing institute within UTHSA with the mission of establishing an interdisciplinary, integrated program to provide comprehensive clinical care and undertake innovative and important research into the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, including vascular contributions to dementia, Parkinson’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. It has strong institutional and community support and will benefit from existing resources within UTHSA such as the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience, the School of Nursing, the Cancer Center, and the Research Imaging Institute along with the San Antonio campus of the UT Health Houston School of Public Health.
In addition, there will be opportunities for immersive, collaborative research within the Framingham Heart Study, the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology, the Cross-Cohorts Collaboration Consortium, the International Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project, the Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project, the International Stroke Genetics Consortium and other consortia in which the founding director of the Biggs Institute, Dr. Sudha Seshadri, has a leadership role.
The Biggs Institute is comprised of six closely integrated cores: a Neuroimaging Core, Clinical Care and Clinical Research Core, a Population Neuroscience Core, a Biological and Innovative Research Core, an Education, Ethics and Training Core and a Public Health, Policy and Community Engagement Core.
