JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Applicants should have Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or related engineering majors that enable them to build mathematical and algorithmic models on medical images and implement them.
- Mathematical modeling knowledge (not limited to a specific methodology, but computer vision, 3D modeling, basic machine learning preferred) is required.
- Programming ability (C++, Python, or Matlab, etc.) is required.
- Basic background of medical images (particularly in cardiovascular imaging) and image analysis experience is preferred.
The Nuclear Cardiology Research & Development Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of medical imaging processing and quantification. The mission of the Nuclear Cardiology Lab is the development of image-based software tools to support radiologists, cardiologists, and physicians in general, as they diagnose patients and select the optimal plan of treatment. The main research focus will be in Cardiovascular Physiology assessment in normal and pathological conditions with a variety of invasive and non-invasive medical imaging modalities (such as cardiac PET/SPECT, CT, MRI and invasive CA, IVUS and OCT). Projects will include but are not limited to processing and quantification of functional and anatomical clinical imaging data, data visualization, data fusion, mathematical modelling of myocardial blood flow and myocardial perfusion. Additional research conducted in the Lab involve the development of image-based methodologies for the risk-stratification of cardiovascular pathologies such as aorta dissections, cerebral and abdominal aneurysms.
Experience in the field of cardiovascular imaging and/or in the mathematical modeling of the principal mechanisms governing cardiac and coronary physiology, as evidenced in publications or abstracts, will be highly considered. The successful candidate will be expected to teach techniques, supervise research staff and/or students, write and /or assist in writing manuscripts and grants reports.
