Computational Science Developer I
Friday 6th March 2020
Closing date: 15 April 2020
A postdoctoral position is currently available in the lab of Dr. Molly Gale Hammell at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. The successful applicant will play an integral role in a fully funded project to explore the role of transposons in neurodegenerative disease as part of the CZI’s neurodegeneration challenge network.
This project will use molecular genetics, genomics, and computational techniques to follow up on exciting results suggesting that aging CNS cell types are particularly vulnerable to leaky transposon regulation. This project will integrate multiple genetic and genomic strategies to look for elevated transposon activity. In particular, the project will combine information from single-cell datasets and validation in induced CNS cell types to understand which cells are most likely to show elevated transposon activity and to demonstrate the impact of that activity on cellular function.
Experience in integrative genomics analysis, sequencing library construction, and sequencing data analysis is highly valuable for potential applicants.
Candidates from non-traditional and/or underrepresented backgrounds, broadly defined, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Biology or closely related field with previous experience in Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Genomics. Ideal candidates will have experience with single cell library generation, culture of iPS cells and differentiation into a variety of CNS cell types, and/or experience in transposon biology.
Applicants must have strong written and oral communication skills. Experience in computational analysis is a plus, but is not required for this (predominantly wet lab) project.
Interested candidates should e-mail their application to email@example.com as a single pdf file with subject: Postdoc Application. The application file should include: (1) CV with the publication list, (2) a brief description of research interests, (3) contact information for three references.
In addition, the candidates should upload their application online at: http://cshl.peopleadmin.com/postings/16840
