The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of associate professor in the area of health economics and data analytics. The position may be tenured or tenure-track depending on qualifications.

Applicants require knowledge and skills in health economics and related quantitative techniques to support data-driven decisions in health organizations. The responsibilities for this position include developing and maintaining a successful research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and mentoring students in research, and providing service to the program and university as well as to the community and profession. Applicants will be expected to conduct data-driven economic analyses for research on health care markets, health insurance, reimbursement schemes, public health and community interventions, and related topics, and support teaching in biomedical informatics, the science of healthcare delivery, and other areas relevant the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will collaborate with local, national, and international health organizations on research projects and play an important role in the development and use of the databases in the ASU Center for Health Information & Research (CHiR), a multidisciplinary unit in the College that provides comprehensive health care information and data analytics for Arizona. CHiR has served as a community resource for academia and public health research for over 15 years.

Biomedical Informatics Program

Biomedical Informatics (BMI) is an evolving, dynamic field recognized as increasingly essential to the advancement of the health industry connecting basic sciences with the practical application of clinical sciences. Skilled professionals in BMI are able to analyze and translate large amounts of health data into meaningful solutions that improve health care delivery and patient outcomes. In CHS, BMI academic faculty teach and research in the whole spectrum of biomedical informatics, including bioinformatics, imaging informatics, clinical informatics, and public health informatics, and foster strong partnerships with researchers, clinical practitioners and regional health care providers in the advancement of research and education in the science and practice of biomedical informatics. Faculty have a presence at Mayo Clinic’s Scottsdale campus and partnerships with many other health organizations, which infuse our degree programs with practical research that mandates clinical relevance and reinforces a standard of excellence and leadership.

College of Health Solutions

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. CHS research programs encompass basic/discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, CHS faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. The college is highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented with an innovative organizational structure that includes translational teams, affinity networks, and academic programs to improve the health of people and communities.

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, executive and continuing education, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s Scottsdale campus.

Required qualifications:

  • MD and/or PhD degree in field appropriate to the duties, including in Health Economics, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health economics and data analytics as well as experience in applications
  • Demonstrated experience with data modeling for improved health outcomes
  • Evidence of conducting and leading research
  • Evidence of a strong peer reviewed publication record
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to write and secure extramural grants
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to develop and teach courses, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students

Desired qualifications:

  • Evidence of successfully writing and securing extramural grants
  • Evidence of successfully teaching on-campus and/or online courses
  • Evidence of successfully mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting interdisciplinary team-based research and collaborating with health organizations
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to provide service to the program and university, as well as to the community and profession
