Our team in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Informatics is part of Roche’s global Research & Early Development Organization. The Position

The position will focus on medical image analysis, specifically processing and extracting information from images to address key scientific questions around personalized prevention and intervention to support our global Personalized Healthcare (PHC) initiatives in the ophthalmology area. In addition, you will participate in building solutions to analyse and visualize pre-clinical data from a variety of sources.

The position entails the following main responsibilities:

  • Design and implement informatics solutions to analyse clinical and pre-clinical data focused on, but not limited to medical images
  • Drive the end-to-end agile delivery of our projects from early stakeholder engagement, iterative software development, to deployment and life cycle support of our solutions
  • Explore and apply computational image analysis, novel statistical methodologies, algorithms and solutions development
  • Apply and advance our state-of-the-art image analysis algorithms and platforms by driving and contributing to the global PHC program
     

Who You Are

We are looking for a motivated and experienced PhD level scientist with a background in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Software Engineering who is excited to work at the interface of biomedical science and informatics. Advanced knowledge of image analysis, machine learning, and statistics is essential together with a strong track record on algorithm development and end-to-end solution delivery.

If you have the following skills and qualifications, we look forward to receiving your application:

  • Several years of experience in the image analysis field, in an academic or industrial setting, preferably in close collaboration with medical or biological scientist
  • In-depth experience with image/video processing and analysis, pattern recognition, and visualization, covering various imaging modalities
  • Academic publication track record in related fields and motivation to constantly extend your knowledge of the field and related methods
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning applied to image classification and/or image segmentation (TensorFlow, Keras or PyTorch)
  • Experience in classical image analysis, model-based analysis methods, model validation, engineering, and integration of end-to-end predictive modelling pipelines
  • Strong software engineering experience (Python, R packages, .net, ITK, VTK)
  • Strong technical experience (Unix command line, SQL, slurm, git, high performance computing, unit testing, continuous integration)
  • Shown ability to work in agile collaborative software projects (SCRUM) with both open source and commercial solutions
  • Very good English language skills, capacity to communicate effectively and provide high quality visual representations of achieved results
  • Dedicated attitude with the ability to engage with diverse collaborators and to adapt to changing environments
