Presentation of activities and main tasks linked to the job

  • The Chief Scientific Officer oversees the scientific vision, strategy and functions of the company. He/She will report to the CEO and be part of the Leadership team. He/She will closely work with the Chief of Innovation, the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief of software development. Like other jobs for top executives, this management position combines discipline-specific knowledge with leadership and business skills to promote the efficiency, profitability and competitive position of the company.
  • Integrated into a multidisciplinary leadership team, you are a leader in the research and development of innovative medical imaging solutions using machine learning and other AI methods.
  • Responsibilities will include leading a growing team of data scientists, imager processing and machine learning specialists. You will apply your scientific knowledge to lead the development of innovative solutions to manage highly complex, high-dimensional data and build first-of-a-kind proof-of-concept systems using data coming from medical imaging systems such as MRI and CT scanners.
  • Your work will involve management of agile research and validation of novel machine learning algorithms and big data systems. Leading our core research organization, you will actively scout, keep track of, evaluate, and leverage disruptive technologies, and emerging industrial, academic and technological trends.
  • In addition, you will transfer technology to the development team, and share insights and best practices across innovation teams. You will generate intellectual property for the company. You will be expected to author peer reviewed papers, present results at conferences and participate in scientific/industry panels,
  • Responsibilities also include the management and engagement with our third party strategic academic and technology partners.
  • This individual will have an outstanding scientific profile allied with strong communication skills and strategic commercial awareness. He or she will be responsible for building a team to shape and execute Median's detailed strategy for the discovery of novel imaging biomarkers and the adoption of Imaging Phenomics to leverage prognostic information from medical images in parallel with other "omics" data for improved diagnostics in multiple fields.


    • Responsibilities
  • The Chief Scientific Officer stays updated on technological advances and industry trends in order to advise the organization's governing body in scientific matters. This may include making recommendations on future projects, such as new research opportunities or technological ventures. He/she will also coordinate research activities by recruiting qualified researchers, managing personnel and evaluating their performance.


  • The Chief Scientific Officer may serve public relations functions by representing the scientific goals and interests of the company at press conferences, meetings, conventions and shareholder events. As such, he/she may need to travel in order to meet with key stakeholders of the field to establish and maintain advantageous contacts in academia or industry.


    • The scope of the role will include
  • Delivering the company's scientific strategy, including the recruitment of scientific staff located across Median's worldwide offices
  • In tandem with the Chief of Innovation, and Chief Medical Officer, working closely with Median's clinical, product, engineering, regulatory and commercial teams to ensure the rapid translation of new scientific capabilities to the company's clinical solutions
  • Ensuring the sustained professional development and mentoring of the company's scientific team
  • Reporting to the CEO, and on occasion directly to the Board of Directors, on matters regarding the company's overall scientific strategy
  • Owning the scientific publication strategy including presenting both peer-reviewed and invited work at a range of meetings
  • Championing the validation and adoption of advanced imaging biomarkers in both clinical trial and routine diagnostic/ screening settings
  • Building on existing academic collaborations to deliver scientific breakthroughs in line with Median's overall strategy
  • Growing the company's intellectual property portfolio, ensuring sustained freedom to operate in line with the company's future strategy and managing the internal invention capture process across the scientific and wider teams



Searched profile

    • Education:
  • PhD in medical imaging, Artificial Intelligence, data science, physics or mathematical science


    • Experience
  • Extensive industry, research and management experience, and significant experience with research and publication, grant writing and fundraising.
  • Outstanding graduate and post-doctoral publication history demonstrating successful and practical application of imaging science to current clinical practice
  • Combination of excellent science and business know-how, as well as the ability to align company functions with its mission and vision.


    • Knowledge
  • An awareness of current regulatory guidelines for the technologies and applications pertaining to Median's business will be an asset
  • An awareness of patentable technologies and processes will be an asset.



    • Skills
  • Managerial skills including budget management, HR and interfacing with business development and marketing


    • To be located in South of France with frequent travel to the company's offices in USA and China as well as Median's global network of partners and customers.
