Machine Learning Tools for Automatic Segmentation Quality Assessment and Refinement of Radiotherapy Critical Structures

The Department of Medical Physics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is looking for a full-time, postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computer vision and machine learning. Expert knowledge of advanced image analysis methods and strong proficiency in Python and C#/C++ is required. Knowledge of machine learning including deep learning is highly desirable. Proficiency in ITK and visualization tools including VTK is plus.

The position involves developing advanced image analysis methods combined with machine learning for generating auto-segmentation of organs-at-risk (OARs) relevant for radiation therapy treatment planning, and using machine learning-based measures of segmentation quality to determine whether variability in the segmentation would result in a large variability in the radiation therapy dose to the OAR.  This will enable us to guide the  physician’s attention to those structures that need correction in order to improve the quality of treatment plans.

In this position, the candidate will work actively with computer scientists, medical physicists, and radiation oncologists to develop the analysis methods and software prototype. This position is funded for two years with possible extension to an additional year and can start immediately. Selected candidates are expected to publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals/conferences. Strong written and verbal skills are essential.

The Department of Medical Physics consists of over forty faculty physicists plus support staff working on various physical problems related to diagnosis and therapy for cancer. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and is recognized as a world leader in clinical cancer care and research.

Interested candidates should send a resume and list of three references by e-mail to Drs. Harini Veeraraghavan (veerarah@mskcc.org) and Dr. Lawrence Rothenberg (rothenbl@mskcc.org):
