Robotics, imaging and simulation are technologies that have a major impact on the delivery and teaching of health care worldwide. This special one-week summer school will provide an intensive introduction to surgical robotics, image-guided systems and simulation technologies and their clinical context. The school is designed for graduate students in engineering and scientific fields as well as clinicians and researchers who are starting careers as innovators in the medical domain.

A distinguished faculty of international experts will present in-depth lectures on a range of topics, including: surgical robotics, haptics and teleoperation, medical imaging, computer-assisted surgical planning, major therapy delivery techniques, surgical simulation, training, and performance assessment. Hands on activities will be provided at CSTAR in the surgical, engineering and simulation laboratories. Accepted students will present posters describing their research projects or interests. Social events will allow networking opportunities with faculty and fellow students.

Partial support for the school has been provided by several sponsors including the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Intuitive Surgical Inc., Lawson Health Research Institute, CSTAR, Robarts Research Institute, and Western University. The Summer School is also supported as a training event under the CREATE Program of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada on Computer-Assisted Medical Interventions (CAMI).

A registration fee of $600 per student/postdoc will be charged. This will include accommodation in student residences for out-of-town attendees and meals for all attendees. All attendees are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from London, Ontario.

Applications from prospective students are due by July 6, 2012. To apply, please visit http://robotics.imaging.robarts.ca/content/registration
