Research Position in Medical Imaging (National Institutes of Health, NIH)
Tuesday 5th January 2021
A postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available in the Dr. Zhiyong Lu’s research group at the Intramural Research Program of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Lu’s laboratory is primarily interested in developing and applying computational approaches to large-scale biomedical data, such as clinical images and biomedical texts, towards improved information access and better healthcare. Our recent research in medical imaging analysis has focused on (1) automatous disease diagnosis and prognosis (e.g. DeepSeeNet), and (2) NLP-powered data harvesting and learning with weak labels (e.g. ChestXray14). The successful applicant will build and apply new methods in machine learning to such research problems and have the opportunity to contribute to the early detection and timely treatment of retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through collaboration with Dr. Emily Chew and her research laboratory at the National Eye Institute (NEI).
Qualifications: Applicants must have training with a strong emphasis on computation and familiarity with medical image analysis, artificial intelligence, & machine learning. A PhD degree or equivalent in computer science, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering or a closely related field is required. Strong programming and data analysis skills are essential. Applicants need not be US citizens or Permanent Residents.
Appointments are initially for two years, with the option of extension based on performance. Stipends are commensurate with research experience and education.
To apply: please submit your curriculum vitae and the names of three referees to Dr. Lu at Zhiyong.Lu@nih.gov. Applications will be evaluated as they are received until the position is filled.
