TWO YEAR POST DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP (University of Southern California)

Tuesday 19th January 2021

Application Deadline: Mar 31, 2021
Closing Date: March 31, 2021

Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate position. The USC Laboratory of Neuro Imaging is seeking a postdoctoral fellow for a two year NIH Institutional Training Grant for the Multiscale and Multimodal Analysis of Biomarkers in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The primary project may include development of machine learning or deep learning methods for prediction of disease progression in AD subjects. This includes the development and distribution of novel AI resources to map abnormalities in the brain that relate specifically to aging and neurodegenerative disease including Alzheimer’s disease and its related dementias (ADRD). To provide more sensitive and specific biomarkers to assess risk for ADRD, allowing for early and accurate diagnoses, track disease progression, and monitor treatment efficacy, we adopt AI algorithms to calculate an individual’s “brainAge”; as an MRI marker of neurodegenerative process that is characterized as white matter hyperintensities, cardiometabolic risk factors on neurodegeneration, and decreased integrity of brain morphology and microstructure. The laboratory provides ample opportunity for the development of innovative, focused research and a broad collaborative clinical neuroscience experience as well as for numerous publications in high impact journals.

This is a multidisciplinary effort combining the expertise and resources of six USC schools, centers, institutes, and departments: The Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute (INI) at the Keck School of Keck School of Medicine, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the Viterbi School of Engineering, the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute (ZNI) in the Keck School of Medicine, the Department of Psychology in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, and the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. Participants will also receive continuing education, training, and research experience to prepare for a successful independent research career. Training includes lab rotations, regular seminars, and instruction for teaching and grant writing. The chosen candidate may begin at any time before April 30, 2021.

Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in bioengineering, physics, electrical engineering, neuroimaging or related disciplines
• Proficient in programming, such as C++, Python and Matlab.
• Research experience in image processing, machine learning or statistical analysis.

CV, s two letters of recommendation, samples of written work, and a statement of intent.
Postdoctoral candidates must have a doctoral degree and be a US citizen or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence (Green Card Holder) at the time of appointment.
