Description: The interdisciplinary "Research Training Group 2416 MultiSenses –MultiScales: Novel approaches to decipher neural processing in multisensory integration” is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (GRK 2416) and provides an exciting research and training environment for a cohort of motivated PhD/doctoral candidates.
Multisensory processes are fundamental in scaffolding perception, cognition, learning, and behaviour. However, the structural and functional architecture that underlies the brain’s ability to seamlessly integrate simultaneous multisensory inputs is poorly understood. Therefore, the goal of the RTG 2416 MultiSenses – MultiScales is to gain a conceptual understanding of the mechanisms that govern crossmodal integration of sensory information at multiple scales. The RTG will provide in-depth expertise in sensory neurobiology, foster the spirit of transdisciplinary collaboration, and offer hands-on training in a variety of cutting-edge techniques.
We aim to train expert individuals that make the transition from cells to systems and behaviour. A coherent, though flexible curriculum will build a solid foundation in the core concepts of neuroscience. Combined with innovative qualification elements, professional skill development and – most importantly – the opportunity to conduct independent research in a nurturing environment, we aim to train neuroscientists that can compete at the highest international level.
Several positions are available, starting October 1, 2021 . Each position is funded for a period of three years. Given the interdisciplinary character of the RTG, candidates from diverse background (including, but not limited to, life sciences, physics, computer sciences, engineering) should apply.
Successful applicants should have an excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in any of the relevant fields (e.g., biology, physics, chemistry, medicine, computer science, technical acoustics, bioinformatics, modelling, image analysis, etc.). Fluency in English and a basic understanding / interest in quantitative methods and programming are expected.
