Our R&D centre of excellence in Edinburgh has a new vacancy for an experienced Software Engineer to join its Ultrasound software development group. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an intellectually stimulating environment, with exposure to leading-edge technology, within the medical imaging industry. As a company, we strive to create technology that makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives, giving doctors the tools to help restore their patients’ health and well-being.

Our Ultrasound SmartFusion software merges real-time ultrasound with CT, MRI, PET or previous UL data, allowing better diagnosis and guidance of interventional procedures. It forms part of a wider initiative underway at our R&D centre to enable 'smart modalities', by bringing advanced functionality and AI to Canon's premium ultrasound scanners and their wider ecosystem with the aim to improve workflows.

You will be working within a small international team of software engineers and clinical analysts. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from requirements capture to product release and support. This is a team that works well together and where team members motivate and support each other.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced software engineer, who enjoys working as part of a team, and has the drive and ability to learn and develop new skills and is keen to further develop their career. You have an excellent academic record within a Computing/Scientific based discipline and have a proven track record working in a software engineer role. Candidates without an academic record should be able to demonstrate that they have a strong understanding and practical experience of working within a software development role.

You will have experience of working with Windows desktop application development in C++ and want to take this opportunity to grow into a senior role. You have been mentoring and guiding other developers before and you take pride and responsibility in delivering quality code that makes our users happy.

You should be well versed in tools like Jenkins, Mercurial (or other version management systems), issue tracking systems (for example Jira or Redmine) and Coverity or other static analysis tools. You know how to identify and use design patterns and feel confident to suggest and implement improvements where necessary.

Prior knowledge of medical imaging would be advantageous, as would any interest or prior experience in augmented or mixed reality applications.

We aim to offer an inclusive, flexible, and balanced working environment, by being an employer that cares for and respects its employees. We are part of a global family, that works closely with other development teams based in Japan, America, Canada and France; giving the opportunity of work placements at partner sites. As an employer, we want to provide you with the right environment to allow you to develop your career, by giving you time to learn new skills and pursue your own creative projects.

We are happy to talk about flexible working.
