Closing date: 24/12/2022

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow, in the area of computer vision and artificial intelligence with applications in Endonasal surgery. We are seeking to appoint outstanding researchers in our rapidly expanding team in the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) and the Department of Computer Science at UCL and welcome applications from candidates who are passionate about research and possible applications of vision in the medical context. The post will be part of an interdisciplinary EPSRC funded project to develop new platform for context-aware Augmented Reality (AR) for Endonasal surgery.

This role will lead the development of novel context-aware algorithms for surgical scene understanding in endonasal surgery. Focus will be on developing new coarse-to-fine (surgical phases to fine-grain surgeon actions recognition) scene understanding and critical anatomical structure recognition algorithms. The successful candidate will work independently as well as collaborating with the wider research team involving clinical and HCI expertise for the integration of the developed techniques into an envision AR platform. They will also be expected to design and run experiments, record and analyse results and present the findings of their work in presentations, at international conferences and in leading journals.
