The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a Research Assistant or Associate Professor position. The incumbent will carry out responsibilities related to research, teaching, and public service. The duties associated with the position are to establish a vigorous and externally funded research program related to the development of spectroscopic imaging technologies and methods, especially as related to cancer biology, diagnostic and prognostic needs. The Department of Bioengineering is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. Research track faculty are expected to provide professional leadership within the Department of Bioengineering, other campus units, and the professional community.

This position requires a Ph.D. in bioengineering or a related field. The successful candidate must have expertise in spectroscopic imaging, spectroscopy of biological or biomedical samples, chemometric methods and a record of collaborative advances. Competitive applicants will show the promise of making a substantial impact on bioengineering-related research topics as demonstrated by publications, invited talks, extramural funding, professional service contributions, and other recognized scholarly activities.

This is a 100% non-tenure-track, renewable appointment on an academic year (nine-month) service basis paid over twelve months. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Preferred starting date is as soon as possible, but is negotiable.
