Job Description
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Scientist, Image Analysis to work within our Computational Pathology, Oncology team. Within this position you will assume technical leadership on projects while developing and applying groundbreaking technologies in image data science.

What you’ll do

Create and deploy image analysis solutions serving the goals of drug development projects, including requirements engineering, development, implementation, deployment and result delivery on large scale datasets.

Extract knowledge and insights from digital pathology image data in order to support drug development and biomarker discovery in Early Oncology through a range of data preparation, modelling, analysis and/or visualization techniques.

Apply expertise in image analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modelling and/or applied mathematics to develop and operate innovative data science solutions.

Assume technical expert role in projects or segments of large-scale programs, while applying specialist knowledge in data science.

Close collaboration with interfacing functions within Early Oncology, such as pathology, translational sciences and software development.

Contribute to image analysis and data science algorithm libraries as well as enabling tools and components.

Effectively engage with the technology development and AI science community within AstraZeneca, and contribute to scientific conferences and journal publications.

 

Essential for the role

M. Sc., Ph.D. degree in computer sciences, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or comparable degree, with a focus on computer vision and image-derived data analysis or equivalent

Experience in building and deploying computer vision pipelines, previous experience with (bio-)medical images, especially digital pathology whole slide images, is a strong plus

Experience in at least one aspect of object detection/instance segmentation/panoptic segmentation, self-/weakly-/semi- supervised learning, image-to-image translation or image normalization

Experience in Python/git, knowledge of relevant libraries for computer vision (e.g. PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow, Scikit-Image, openCV etc.), data analysis (e.g. Pandas, Scikit-Learn, numpy/scipy etc.) and deployment (e.g. kubeflow/k8s, docker etc.)

Track record of scientific publications, conference contributions and/or delivered AI solutions in scientific industry projects in the field of computer vision and/or machine learning for data analysis.

Scientific excellence and passion to work on innovative ways to address image data science challenges in Early Oncology.

Talent to conceptualize, build, communicate and implement novel scientific ideas aligned with the drug development and biomarker strategies.

Keeps pace with the latest advances in the field of image analysis and machine learning
