About Dr. Yingying Zhu
Dr. Yingying Zhu, Principal Investigator (PI), will join the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2025 to establish a Biomedical AI & Big Data Research Group. She obtained her PhD in Computer Science and Technology from the University of Queensland, Australia. Her research interests include computer vision, medical imaging, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics.
She has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Cornell University. She has also worked as a Senior Project Scientist at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas. Dr. Zhu has published over 30 papers as (co-)first or corresponding author in top-tier medical AI conferences and journals such as CVPR, ECCV, MICCAI, KDD, NeurIPS, EMNLP, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, and Medical Image Analysis.

Research Group Focus
Our lab focuses on AI applications in clinical medicine and biomedical research. Key research directions include:
Multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs) based on medical and biological imaging and text data.
Genomics and Cell Biology Integration using multimodal foundational models (Cryo-EM, super-resolution microscopy).
Distillation and Application of Large Models for pathology imaging, bioinformatics, and multi-omics data.
Virtual Digital Cell Simulation & Evolution and related biological applications.
To achieve these goals, we will employ interdisciplinary methods, including:
Computer vision, 3D image computing, and foundational models for image computation
Foundational language models for medical and biological sciences
Large model acceleration techniques (distillation, pruning)
Reinforcement learning and causal learning

Responsibilities
Independently or collaboratively conduct research projects and related tasks.
Develop research plans, write papers, and apply for grants and projects.
Assist in supervising graduate students and manage lab affairs.
Qualifications
Background in bioinformatics, deep learning, or computer science; proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Perl, C++, Java, etc.); first-author publications in relevant fields.
Passion for research, strong initiative, responsibility, teamwork, and good communication skills (English reading & writing required).

Competitive salary: Postdoctoral fellows start at ¥300,000+ per year (negotiable).
