Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences
AI is empowering biology—now is your chance to break into CNS-level research!
This is a golden opportunity for engineering talents to pivot into cutting-edge biomedical science. Platforms like Deepseek are fueling explosive AI applications, and biomedical AI is poised for a breakthrough. Join us and transcend disciplinary boundaries—compete at the frontier with NeurIPS, CVPR, and ICLR. To lead the future, you must seize the moment.
About the PI
Dr. Yingying Zhu will join the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), Chinese Academy of Sciences in August 2025 as a Principal Investigator, founding the Biomedical AI and Big Data research group.
She received her Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia, and has conducted postdoctoral research at UNC-Chapel Hill and Cornell University. She later worked as a Staff Scientist at NIH and an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Her research spans computer vision, medical image analysis, AI, and bioinformatics, with 30+ first-/corresponding-author publications in top-tier conferences and journals including CVPR, ECCV, MICCAI, KDD, NeurIPS, EMNLP, IEEE TMI, TPAMI, and Medical Image Analysis.

Research Group Focus
The lab aims to explore multimodal foundation models for biomedical imaging and omics data integration, powered by large-scale facilities such as cryo-EM, super-resolution microscopy, spatial multi-omics, and bioprinting platforms.
We welcome passionate students and researchers who love science, are eager to explore, and possess strong computational and analytical abilities. I will fully support interns in applying for PhD programs and jobs at top tech companies, while also assisting with long-term academic and career planning.
Core Research Areas:
Large vision-language models (VLMs) for multimodal medical and biological data (radiology, pathology, cellular images, clinical text)
Multimodal alignment of genomics/spatial omics with microscopy (cryo-EM, SRM) using foundation models and AI agents
AI-driven 3D cell and organ printing systems, optimizing imaging and control through physical modeling + deep learning
Multimodal model distillation and domain-specific fine-tuning for pathology and omics data
Digital twin for cells and systems biology simulations
Core methodologies: computer vision, GNNs, foundation model distillation/pruning, reinforcement learning, causal inference
Postdoctoral Positions (long-term)
Goal: Cultivate future associate PIs to co-develop long-term lab direction
