Description We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary collaboration between Dr. Yuan Xue (Department of Biomedical Informatics) and Dr. Andréa Ferreira Zandoná (Vice Chair of Research, College of Dentistry) at The Ohio State University. The position offers a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and clinical imaging, with a primary focus on predicting dental caries progression using multimodal data.
The postdoc will work on a multicenter, longitudinal dataset that includes intraoral radiographs, clinical metrics, and behavioral data. Responsibilities include developing multimodal deep learning models, validating and interpreting model outputs, and working closely with clinical collaborators to ensure translational relevance.
In addition to the dental-focused research, the postdoc will also contribute to other ongoing projects in Dr. Xue’s lab that involve AI for multimodal medical imaging. The projects span diverse clinical domains and offer opportunities to explore generalizable architectures, foundational models, and predictive analytics in broader healthcare contexts.
Candidates should hold a PhD in computer science, biomedical informatics, electrical engineering, or a related field, with strong research experience in machine learning, deep learning, and image-based modeling. A solid track record of publications in leading venues is required. Relevant venues such as MICCAI, IPMI, CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, and journals such as TMI, MedIA, or related high-impact outlets. Experience in multimodal learning, temporal modeling, or medical/dental imaging is strongly desired. Familiarity with radiographic image analysis and an interest in clinically grounded AI development are highly valued.
This is a full-time position based in Columbus, Ohio, USA with an initial appointment of two years and the possibility of extension. The postdoc will be based in Dr. Xue’s lab at the Department of Biomedical Informatics, and will collaborate closely with Dr. Zandoná’s team at the College of Dentistry—recognized as one of the nation's leading centers in dental public health research.
To apply, please send a single PDF including (1) a cover letter describing your research background and interest in the position, (2) a CV with publication list, and (3) contact information for three references to Dr. Yuan Xue at yuan.xue@osumc.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
