At Jade University Wilhelmshaven/Oldenburg/Elsfleth, in the Department of Engineering Sciences on the Wilhelmshaven campus, the research focus is on "Medical Image Processing, Visualization, and Computer-Assisted Surgery“ in the project ”In time Virtual Reality Simulations" (DFG MA 6791/1-1)1 at the Faculty of Engineering on the Wilhelmshaven campus, the following position is available as soon as possible on a full-time basis and is limited until December 31, 2026:

Your responsibilities:
In the research topic “Virtual Reality for Patient Body Modeling” for the semi-interactive modeling of virtual patient avatars from CT volume image data. Your responsibilities will include, among other things:
• Avatar design: Independent algorithm development for organ and tumor segmentation (CNNs) and visual-haptic organ rendering and manipulation modules for quality assurance
• Connection development for displaying virtual patient body avatars with current
virtual reality headsets such as (Meta Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro)
• User-friendly (physician/radiologist) method and GUI provision in a prototype
• Regular discussions of the project status, collaboration in applying for third-party funding, scientific approach, evaluation of new methodological developments, and publication of specialist publications together with the project manager
• Occasional participation in Prof. Mastmeyer's teaching

Requirements:
• Relevant, completed academic degree (e.g., master's, diploma (university)) in the field of engineering or computer science with a specialization in image or visualization informatics in medical applications or a comparable relevant field of study
• Demonstrable software development skills and ability to familiarize yourself with the interdisciplinary topic
• Proficiency in C#/C++/Python and the Unity game engine
• Pragmatic enthusiasm for designing a doctor-friendly visual-haptic organ modeler prototype (C#/Unity)
(user interface) and to develop and evaluate new algorithms
• Interest in interactive haptic and volume rendering methods

Desirable:
• Interest in interactive I/O robotics, deep learning (CNNs), and initial teaching experience as well as initial publications
