Description Queen Mary University of London has been funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) through a Doctoral Focal Award (DFA) to train the next generation of computational researchers working at the intersection of AI and spatial biology. Up to 27 funded PhD studentships will be supported across three cohorts, the first starting in Sept 2026.
Spatial biology was named Technology of the Year by Nature Methods in both 2020 and 2024 and is rapidly transforming how we study biological systems. These technologies generate rich, high-dimensional, multi-modal (imaging + ‘omics) data, creating exciting opportunities for new AI-driven approaches.
We’re looking for applicants with strong coding and data science / computer vision skills who are keen to work on challenging problems in the biosciences.
