Background
The Ren Laboratory in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Northwestern University is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to join our AI research program focused on developing and translating cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies for radiation therapy.

Research areas include the development and implementation of advanced AI techniques for image-guided radiation therapy, including image reconstruction, enhancement, synthesis, segmentation, and registration, as well as AI-driven approaches for treatment outcome prediction and clinical decision-making. Projects involve multimodality imaging data, including CT, MRI, PET, and Ultrasound, as well as clinical radiation oncology software platforms such as treatment planning and image guidance systems. The overarching goal of the research is to develop practical and clinically translatable AI technologies that directly improve patient care and outcomes in radiation oncology.

Self-motivated and goal-oriented researcher with experience in programming and modeling. Prior work with AI development will be viewed positively.
Highly collaborative, resourceful and effective team-player who is enthusiastic to tackle challenging scientific and technical problems.

Desired Skill Sets:

  • A PhD in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science or a related field.
    • Strong programming and computational skills.
      • Experience in AI development, mathematical modeling or data analysis.
        • Highly motivated scientist with particular attention to detail and the ability to independently plan, design and implement experiments
        • Work cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams and present results at team meetings

The trainee will collaborate extensively across Northwestern's world-class cancer research ecosystem, including experts in radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgery, genomics, pathology, cancer biology, and data science. Additional opportunities exist for collaboration with the Northwestern McCormick School of Engineering and industry partners to facilitate translation and commercialization of innovative technologies.

    • Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external collaborators.
      • Attend and present at national and international scientific conferences.
        • Establish a strong and consistent publication record.
          • Contribute to and lead applications for extramural funding.
