One year together: Building a stronger, more inclusive MICCAI Society
Tuesday 3rd March 2026
Dear MICCAI Community,
One year ago, I began my term as President of the MICCAI Society—an organization that has been my professional home for more than two decades. Looking back on this first year, I feel immense pride and gratitude for what we have accomplished together. Most of all, I want to share a few of the initiatives that have meant the most to me, because they reflect what I value deeply about this community.
I saw many of you in September in Daejeon at the largest MICCAI conference in our history. We spoke about expanding opportunity, access, and impact—and the Society did just that. This year, MICCAI launched seven new Health Equity Innovation Awards, supporting work that advances innovation and inclusion with real-world impact. In parallel, we awarded 100 MICCAI Society Membership Grants, helping researchers—particularly from underrepresented regions and institutions — join, contribute, and feel at home in our Society.
At MICCAI, science is what we do best - and today, our collective reach has never been stronger. The MICCAI 2025 proceedings have already been accessed more than one million times, underscoring the global influence of our research and the trust scientists place in MICCAI as a premier forum for excellence in medical image computing and computer-assisted intervention.
Over the past year, we also strengthened partnerships that position MICCAI at the center of a broader clinical and scientific global network. Join me in celebrating new formal collaborations with the European Society of Radiology and the European Society for Digital and Integrative Pathology, opening meaningful new ways for engagement across disciplines.
We also listened carefully to your ideas about who we are and how we are seen. Through a member vote, MICCAI adopted a new Society logo - a visible symbol of our shared values and our forward-looking spirit.
Looking ahead, I am excited to announce the development of our new MICCAI Society website, designed to better serve our growing community. Alongside it, I am sharing a MICCAI Community survey to hear directly from you - your ideas, needs, and priorities - so we can continue serving you well while shaping MICCAI together.
MICCAI thrives because of you and I thank you for your trust, your engagement, and your collegiality. I hope you will submit many great papers to MICCAI 2026, and I look forward to seeing you in Abu Dhabi.
With appreciation,
Marius George Linguraru
President, MICCAI Society
