Recognizing Outstanding Innovation and Dedication to the MICCAI Community
As the MICCAI community gathered to celebrate at the MICCAI 2024 Gala Dinner, we proudly announced the 2024 MICCAI Fellows and the 2024 Enduring Impact Award recipient. This recognition us reminds of the collective effort required to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation.
2024 Enduring Impact Award
Established in 2009, the Enduring Impact Award is given to an individual who has made a significant and enduring impact on the field through originality, successful clinical applications, publications and dissemination and involvement in conferences, societies and education.
We are pleased to present Daniel Rueckert, TU Munich, with the 2024 Enduring Impact Award.
Biography
Dr. Rueckert has pioneered new areas in nonrigid registration, deep-learning for MR reconstruction and real time image/video super-reconstruction strategies.
He has been published in over 600 peer-reviewed publications with more than 105,000 citations. He is an active editorial and advisory board member of many journals including IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging (Associate Editor) and Medical Image Analysis (Senior Editor).
He currently supervises 28 PhD students and has previously supervised more than 55 PhD students. He teaches Machine Learning for Imaging, Operating Systems, Computer Graphics and Medical Image Computing and has received the Outstanding Teacher Award for three consecutive years from ISMRM.
He was the Program Co-Chair of MICCAI 2009, ISBI 2012 and WBIR 2012 and General Co-Chair of MMBIA 2006 and FIMH 2013 and has been a regular reviewer for numerous conferences.
He is an IEEE Fellow (2015), a MICCAI Fellow (2014), a Fellow in the Royal Academy of Engineering (2015), the Academy of Medical Sciences (2019) and a member of the German Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina (2023).

This year, we celebrate three remarkable individuals whose work embodies the spirit of innovation and dedication.

Biographies

James Gee has made significant strides in the field of medical imaging science through his pioneering development and open-source distribution of computational methods. His work has democratized access to essential tools and resources, enabling researchers worldwide to build upon his innovations.

Hayit Greenspan, Tel-Aviv University, Israel and Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai, NY
Hayit Greenspan is a trailblazer in the development of machine learning methods for medical image computing. Her research has played a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this critical area, enhancing the capabilities of medical imaging technologies.
Dr. Greenspan's contributions extend beyond her research; she is also recognized for her unwavering support of the MICCAI Society. Her commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the community exemplifies her dedication to advancing medical science through technology.
Nicolas Padoy, University of Strasbourg
Nicolas Padoy is recognized for his significant contributions to modeling, automatic analysis, and recognition of activities in surgery and interventional radiology. His research focuses on improving the safety and efficacy of surgical procedures—an area that holds immense potential for enhancing patient outcomes.
Dr. Padoy's commitment to developing and disseminating surgical information has not only advanced our understanding of surgical practices but has also improved training methodologies. His work is instrumental in ensuring that healthcare professionals are equipped with the knowledge they need to provide high-quality care.
