MICCAI Society Membership Grants

PURPOSE OF THE GRANT

The aim of the MICCAI Society Membership Grants is to foster inclusivity and broaden participation in the global medical imaging and computer-assisted intervention community. They will support individuals from underrepresented backgrounds (including those from low- and middle-income countries, diverse gender identities, and ethnic groups), ensuring a more equitable scientific environment. By providing a one-year MICCAI Society membership, the grant will remove financial barriers for students, early-career researchers and clinicians to engage in initiatives and activities organised by the MICCAI Society. The grant recipients will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts, present their work, and build international collaborations that can significantly advance their careers in medical image computing and computer-assisted interventions. This grant will open the doors to a vibrant, global research community and empower the next generation of innovators in healthcare technology.

CRITERIA FOR THE GRANT

Scientists, engineers, physicians, surgeons, allied health professionals, students, post-doctoral trainees, and industry scientists with an interest in medical/biomedical image computing and/or computer assisted interventions are eligible to apply for the MICCAI Society Membership Grants. The selection of the grant recipients will prioritize the following criteria:

  • Applicants who are currently students (BSc, MSc, PhD), early-career researchers within four years from the completion of their PhD or clinicians.
  • Applicants from underserved gender and racial/ethnicity groups, differing abilities, low-income and lower-middle-income countries, or countries that are underrepresented in MICCAI conferences.
  • Applicants with an interest in contributing to the MICCAI Society (e.g. be part of a SIG, or help with the organisation of future MICCAI conferences).

The MICCAI Society Membership Grants are intended to support engagement with the initiatives and activities of the MICCAI Society. If a selected recipient is not able to accept the grant, the grant will go to the next candidate on the ranked list.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS

Applications can be submitted by filling this online form. Applicants should explain the reasons why they are applying, what MICCAI Society Initiatives (e.g. RISE, MSB, WiM, Mentorship/Career development) they are interested in participating, and how they would benefit from being members of the MICCAI Society. A letter of support (from a supervisor, manager, collaborator or MICCAI member) is also required to be attached to the application.

Applications are reviewed by a panel of MICCAI Board members. Awards include one year of complimentary MICCAI membership, and they are typically granted in the form of waiver codes. The program is limited to 100 grants per year. The grant is more than financial support - it’s a gateway to global collaboration, visibility, and career growth in the field of medical imaging and computer assisted interventions.
