RISE-MICCAI events: Past and planned

In conjunction with MICCAI 2023, we hosted our regular RISE-MICCAI lunch event on October 11, 2023, featuring two outstanding keynote speakers Dr. Ghada Zamzmi and Prof. Purang Abolmaesumi. They shared their experience with Affordable AI in Medical Imaging and RISE stories. The event was a big success, with more than 50 participants (in person and online), inspiring stories, and engaging conversations between the keynote speakers and the attendees.

RISE-MICCAI Travel Award

For the first time, the RISE Society has received a philanthropic donation of $20,000 to increase attendance from LMIC in MICCAI. A total of 8 recipients were chosen for full funding; however, given the significant delays in the Canadian visa processing times (more than 200 days from many countries), seven awarded could not attend in person. As an alternative, we offered them virtual MICCAI registrations.

We had our first successful in-person RISE-Award story of Ms Nahal Mirzaie, a PhD student at Sharif University of Technology (Iran), who attended her first MICCAI in Vancouver to present her research paper. To know more about her work, check the MICCAI Daily 2023 (https://www.rsipvision.com/MICCAI2023-Tuesday/25/#zoom=true).

This was an unforgettable moment for the RISE community, as it brings us one step closer to our goal of propelling inclusiveness and geographic diversity within MICCAI. We will work towards having more successful stories at future MICCAI Conferences.

Journal Club - Opening multi-linguistic session (13/01/2024)

The RISE Journal Club is a space that creates a friendly environment to discuss the latest high-quality and state-of-the-art papers in the areas of fundamental AI, machine/deep learning, medical image analysis, and computer vision. To date, we have held 16 editions. Here, you can check the latest papers covered in the sessions: https://github.com/RISE-MICCAI/Journal-Club.

To offer the best to all RISE members in 2024, we plan to host a multi-linguistic opening session of the Journal Club on January 13, 2024. During this session, we will provide an overview of the RISE aims and the planned activities for 2024. Then, we will have several breakout rooms in different languages, where we will discuss the Journal Club's progression and hear the participants' feedback. More details will follow soon.

Please join us on 13 January, 2024, at 4 pm CET time.

Call for volunteers for the RISE Journal Club

We are seeking volunteers to present research papers published in high-impact journals and top-tier conferences in machine learning, computer vision, and medical image analysis to the RISE community. Your time will contribute to empowering researchers in LMICs and building collaborative bridges across countries.
